Background
• Laodicea was a wealthy city that Paul mentions a few times in his letters to other churches found in the New Testament.
• It was a banking center which was highly regarded throughout the Roman world.
• It was known to make expensive clothing.
• It was also known for having medical school and a particular eye-salve.
• Though it was close to Hierapolis with hot water and Colosse with cold water, Laodicea did not have a good water supply and had to pipe its water in from far away which made for lukewarm and sometimes impure water.

GOD WANTS YOU TO BE ON FIRE FOR HIM.

TRUE RICHES.
Laodicea had temporal wealth.
The Lord gives real wealth.
• Matthew 6:19-21 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is there your heart will be also.

TRUE PURITY.
Laodicea could produce physical adornment.
The Lord can cover our shame.
• 1 Corinthians 6:11 “…But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”

TRUE SIGHT.
Laodicea had good eye medicine.
The Lord wants us to have true vision.
• 1 Corinthians 5:7 “We live by faith not by sight.”

The Christian life is like walking up the down escalator.
Make sure we are always moving forward all of the time.
