• Thyatira was an important manufacturing center located approximately forty miles southeast of Pergamum. The city was situated in a valley on the road from Pergamum to Laodicea.
• Thyatira was especially noted for its trade guilds, which were more organized than in any other ancient city. Dye manufacturing was an important industry in Thyatira. The purple dye was made from a root instead of from shellfish. Garment weaving, pottery making, and brass working were also trades known to have existed in Thyatira.
• In its early days, Thyatira had a temple dedicated to Tyrimnos, an ancient sun god. Their rituals were full of acts of pagan worship and immorality.
• The Gospel may have been brought to the city by Lydia of Thyatira who was converted under Paul’s ministry in Philippi (Acts 16:14). The city is commended in Revelation for its deeds, love, faith, service, and perseverance, but it is rebuked for tolerating the false prophetess “Jezebel”

A Little Corruption can do a lot of harm to the Body of Christ

What they did Wrong
They were engaging in sexual sins.

• Idolatry—Jezebel was the seducer of Israel toward Baal.
• It was common in the worship of false gods to have intercourse with shrine prostitutes.
• It was also common to offer sacrifices to idols.
• Jesus warns that her fate will be dire and for the people to remove her from their ranks before they suffer her fate as well.
• The first Jezebel was tossed out of a window and eaten by wild dogs, so the warning is in regard to that kind of punishment.
They were seeking knowledge of sin.
• Deep Secrets—to fight sin you have to experience it.
• This was a pervasive teaching of a false doctrine that said you need to engage in evil practices before you can understand them.
• They were trying to find excuses to sin and get away with it.
• Jesus doesn’t even give this theory much of a discussion like it should be obvious that it’s ridiculous.

What we need to do Right
Remain Pure in Doctrine.

• 1 Timothy 4:16 “Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.”
Remain Pure in Body.
Remain Pure in Mind.

• Spi) Colossians 3:1-2 “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”

Read and study your Bible. Remain pure in Body and pure in Mind.

Don’t let corruption in the door even a little bit or before you know it, the throne of your heart will have a new king sitting on it.
