2 Peter 1:3-4 "By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.”

Did you read that carefully?...just in case you didn't catch it the first time, read the last sentence again just to make sure you got what Peter said. YOU can share in the divine nature of God. Now, that doesn't mean we all get to take turns being God and running the universe for a day, but it does mean we get to be just like God in at least some ways right? How do you get to share in divine nature?

Read the next part... "Make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone.”

The first step in being like Jesus is by treating people like Jesus does. You cannot follow Jesus authentically until you decide to give up all your rights to be angry with the people you walk through life with. Treat them like Jesus would treat them; using patience, self-control, brotherly affection, and love.
